Further News on The Manor House Aldridge

I complained to Walsall Council about the break of promise in holding a further public meeting regarding the future of The Manor House and the Youth Service in Aldridge.

The response is below.

Couple of points. The so called minutes of the meeting are not minutes but a log. They are inaccurate and misleading. I was the person that called for a further public meeting and was told that there would be one. There are lots of witnesses to this including councillors. Furthermore, tweets from Walsall Council indicated that a further public meeting was being planned. Previous blogs detail all of this.

Someone is lying.

Yes, I shall be taking this further. I'll let you know the outcome in due course.

Oh and I saw no evidence whatsoever of 250 flyers. 13 people attended. I do not consider this to be because of apathy but because there was virtually no publicity. Walsall Council relies too heavily on their own social media for publicity. This meeting wasn't given any other publicity by local bloggers/twitterers prior to the event. With a few lines in the local freebies, the drop in session was doomed to failure before it began.

And perhaps I'm being a little cynical in noticing that the drop in session was arranged for a date when local councillors were all busy at a local community area meeting and therefore could not attend to face their electorate.

You mention there were a few lines in the freebie papers - I never saw anything in either Advertiser or Chronicle. I did write a letter to them encouraging people to turn up but they didn't print it.

I did mention the meeting on the Aldridge / Brownhills Lib Dem website & facebook page (http://ablibdems.focusteam.org.uk, https://www.facebook.com/aldridgebrownhills.libdems ) and on whatsoninaldridghe.blogspot.com

I attended the drop in session, honestly learnt nothing new - still no decision on new location. Am pleased though that the Youth are being involved in the next stage to find alternative view - Croft house looks like the front runner.

Seems the future of the Youth Club for Aldridge youngsters is not of any interest to many - more interested in the building's future!

I did also note the fact that Aldridge & Beacon meeting was being held on same night, although given the drop in session was for 3 hrs starting at 17:00 I'm sure our elected representatives could have popped in prior to the other meeting.

  2. According to Walsall Advertiser report they are still looking for a new site, so Youth Club will continue to be held at the Manor House past the 31/03/2014 deadline (http://ablibdems.focusteam.org.uk/)

  3. They are not going to find a suitable building when they will not authorise the signing of a lease! They want something free and something suitable in Aldridge...neither criteria can be fulfilled. Plus of course there's elections in a few weeks....
